EVENT FLASHBACK : HEADWAY MIDSUMMER BALL .. THE SAVOY LONDON...

This month in 2000, Joan attended the 21st Anniversary Midsummer Ball, which celebrated 21 years of the brain injury association charity Headway. This event was held at the iconic Savoy hotel, which is currently closed for a refurbishment. Joan was the Ball patron and during the evening accepted cheques  given to the charity. Buck's Fizz singer Cheryl Baker welcomed the guests who after a champagne reception, sat down to a 5 course dinner followed by dancing to the legendary Joe Loss Orchestra. Shown is the program from the evening.

This still features Joan as Sybil with Steven Berkoff in the British film "Decadence". This was Joan's first film in ten years.. (The Cartier Affair 1984 been the last!), she also played the role of upper class Sybil in this film. . "Decadence" also featured Christopher Biggins and Michael Winner!..

Every marketing campaign be it to advertise a product, a film, a book, starts off with a series of sample proofs, which in the case of a book, the cover! For Joan's 2002 book "Joan's Way..Looking Good..Feeling Great", there were many different sample covers bandied around. Here is one of them,although the photo used remained the same, the layout, colour and titles etc were varied. Will feature more in future posts...

EVENT! DIANE VON FURSTENBERG LAUNCH AT CLARIDGES.. JUNE 23RD 2010

Joan and Percy attended the Diane Von Furstenberg launch at Claridges earlier this evening. The hotel launched the rooms and suites that Diane has re-designed for the top London hotel. Joan no stranger to Claridges, as she held her glamorous wedding to Percy there in 2002. Also in attendance this evening were Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford, David Bailey, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. Great to see Percy back in action, as he recently suffered some back problems!

Here is a rare photo of Joan on the set of the music video "Pissing In The Wind", shown here with singer/songwriter Damon Gough. In the video Joan is going through a bad time and Gough is her guardian angel, who persuades her to get out of her dressing gown into a gown of a more glamorous nature! The video was scripted with Joan in mind and the video was shot in a Danish castle.

This rare still features Joan as Racine with Alexandra Paul in the 1982 TV movie.. "Paper Dolls". This film also starred Joan Hackett, Jennifer Warren, Daryl Hannah, Marc Singer, Antonio Fargas, Barry Primus and Craig.T.Nelson. The film proved to be popular and in 1984 a weekly series was launched with the fabulous Morgan Fairchild in the Racine role.

ATTRACTIVE ATTRACTION! WALK OF FAME EUROPE...

On September 28th 2003, Joan was in Rotterdam, where she placed her hands in cement for the ever growing Walk of Fame Europe attraction. Based on the legendary hand print attraction at Gauman's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd, this version was also endorsed by the late Johnny Grant, Mayor of Hollywood and chairman of The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joan placed her handprints at the Grand Hotel, Huis ter Duin, Noordwijk. This attraction opened in 1990, attended by Grant and other celebrities. Among the other stars who left their mark are, Shirley Bassey, Dionne Warwick, Nancy Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Cliff Richard, Lionel Richie, Nana Mouskouri, Grace Jones, Tina Turner and Tom Jones among many others. ON THE COVER : SATURDAY ... OCTOBER 2009

This cover from the Express newspaper supplement magazine Saturday, features a fabulous photo of Joan, who was appearing that week on ITV , in her special "Joan Does Glamour". It was hoped that there would be more glamour from Joan on ITV, however apparently they cant afford to film anymore with Joan, but may use one of their payroll presenters. They probably spent their budget on the mind numbing world cup!

FILM FLASHBACK : HOMEWORK.. 1982

This rare still shows Joan as Diane in the comedy drama "Homework", which although released in 1982, it was originally filmed in 1979 as "Growing Pains" as a teenage drama/comedy. But to cash in on the younger male/older woman films of the early 80's like "Class" with Jacqueline Bisset, and of course "Dynasty", the producers added more sex scenes using a body double and never mentioned it wasn't Joan. Will feature a longer article on this in a future post.
