This month in 2000, Joan attended the 21st Anniversary Midsummer Ball, which celebrated 21 years of the brain injury association charity Headway. This event was held at the iconic Savoy hotel, which is currently closed for a refurbishment. Joan was the Ball patron and during the evening accepted cheques given to the charity. Buck's Fizz singer Cheryl Baker welcomed the guests who after a champagne reception, sat down to a 5 course dinner followed by dancing to the legendary Joe Loss Orchestra.
