FILM FLASHBACK : THE BAWDY ADVENTURES OF TOM JONES... 1976

This signed photo features Joan as Black Bess in the comedy musical "The Bawdy Adventures Of Tom Jones".This romp also starred Nicky Henson, Trevor Howard, Terry Thomas, Arthur Lowe, Georgia Brown and Madeline Smith.

CAMPAIGN TIME : JOAN COLLINS JEANS ..

Recently Joan hit the headlines as she objected to The Ritz hotel in London's decision to allow designer jeans be worn in the hotel. But Joan was not condemning jeans as a whole, she was only lamenting the fact that a hotel with a reputation like "The Ritz", should uphold their standards. After Joan had a big success with "The Stud", fashion business head, Philip Green contacted her to ask if she would be interested in launching her own line of designer jeans. Philip Green at that time was known as the "Bond Street Bandit" and Joan thought it might be fun to be involved in the venture. Designer jeans were not as common as they are now and hopes were high for their success. Joan did a tour of the UK to promote the line, but even with all the fanfare, the line soon disappeared from the racks. Here are a tag and a print ad plus a signed photo promoting the line..

FILM FLASHBACK : CRY OF THE WOLF ( THE GREAT ADVENTURE ) 1975

This still features Joan as Sonia Kendall in the family adventure "The Cry Of The Wolf" aka.. "The Great Adventure". This Italian/Spanish production was originally called "Il Richiamo Del Lupo". The film also stars Jack Palance and Fred Romer.

AD FLASHBACK .... MY SECRET! 1994

This rare print ad features Joan with a moisturizer she endorsed in 1994 and was a line distributed by The Franklin Mint. This mail order beauty product retailed for $29.95. The photo used was by legendary photographer Gary Bernstein. More on these products in a future post!

This lobby card is from the popular 1975 shocker "I Don't Want To Be Born!"...known in America as "The Devil Within Her". The lobby features Joan as Lucy Carlesi with John Steiner as Tommy Morris and an unknown dolly bird!  The excellant cast also starred Ralph Bates, Donald Pleasence, Caroline Munro, Hilary Mason and Dame Eileen Atkins.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!!

Today in 1933, another legendary Joan was born, my favourite comedienne and a lovely lady, Miss Joan Rivers. A true comedy legend, Joan has been making us laugh for over 50 years, this Emmy award winning star had turned her hand to films, television, stage and a bestselling author. Joan never fails to put a smile on my face and I wish her many more years of bringing laughter to the world.. Both Joan's are very good friends and here are a few shots of the two legends together!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!!!

EVENT.......... CFDA AWARDS ALICE TULLY HALL .. LINCOLN CENTER : JUNE 7TH : NEW YORK.

 The 2010 Council Of Fashion Designers Of America Awards were held at The Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center New York a few hours ago, where  Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar won the award for Accessory Designer of the Year. Joan of course fronted a truly glamorous 80's themed campaign earlier this year for Alexis. Joan was due to attend but was not feeling well, so Alexis escorted style doyenne and "Old World Weavers" founder Iris Apfel down the red carpet. Alexis was presented his award by actress Dakota Fanning.

FILM FLASHBACK : ALFIE DARLING! 1975

This still features Joan as Fay in the comedy  "Alfie Darling!". This was a sequel to to the hit Michael Caine film "Alfie", with Alan Price in the Alfie role. The film also featured Jill Townsend, Hannah Gordon, Rula Lenska, Annie Ross and Sheila White. More from this to come!

EVENT : FETISH AT INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IRELAND..

Joan's upcoming independent film "Fetish" has just been accepted for a screening at the 2010 International Film Festival Ireland to be held in Clonmel Tipperary from September 4th to 11th. With screenings and events, plus the awards dinner and ceremony at the Knocklofty House Hotel. No exact date for the screening of "Fetish", but as they say, watch this space!! I am sure this is the first of many festivals to screen this exciting new production starring Joan as Francesca Vonn , with Charles Casillo as Darius Russi. Much more on "Fetish" to come.. FILM FLASHBACK : DRIVE HARD, DRIVE FAST .. 1973

This still features Joan as Carole Bradley in the little seen Universal thriller "Drive Hard, Drive Fast", also in the photo are Brian Kelly and Karen Ericson. This film was actually filmed in 1969, but was shelved until it's 73 release.. More on this film in a future post..

VIDEO FLASHBACK : THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING .. 1955

This sleeve is for the 1989 CBS FOX Joan Collins Collection release of "The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing", which featured Joan as Evelyn Nesbit. The film also starred Ray Milland and Farley Granger. This collection featured 5 of Joan's 50's Fox films and the other titles in the series were...."Sea Wife".. "The Bravados".. "Rally Round The Flag Boys!"..and "Stopover Tokyo". Will feature other covers in the series in future posts..

This lobby card features Joan as Sarah Mandeville in the shocker "Dark Places", also featured in the photo is Herbert Lom, Robert Hardy and Christopher Lee. The film also co-starred Jane Birkin and Jean Marsh.

This still features Joan as Molly Carmichael in the Hammer production "Fear in the Night".This thriller also starred Peter Cushing, Ralph Bates and Judy Geeson. Will feature more on this in a future post!

This cover from The Detroit News Television magazine features Joan in an unusual shot on the cover. "Dynasty" was high in the ratings at that time and Joan appeared on many TV magazines to promote the series.

VIDEO FLASHBACK : HANSEL & GRETEL 1982

This video sleeve is for the 1989 MGM/UA Home Video release of the 1982 cable version of "Hansel & Gretel" from the Faerie Tale Theatre series. Joan starred in the dual role of stepmother and the witch and she also was nominated for a Cable.Ace Award for her performance. The episode also featured Ricky Schroder, Paul Dooley and Bridgette Anderson.

ON THE COVER : FILMS ILLUSTRATED 1971

This cover from 1971 features Joan on the cover from the then popular movie magazine "Films Illustrated" and features the headline..."Joan Collins..Home from Hollywood". Joan had just made two films back to back for Rank.. "Revenge" and "Quest for Love".This monthly magazine launched in 1971 and ran until 1982.

FILM FLASHBACK : TALES FROM THE CRYPT 1972

This still features Joan as Joanne Clayton in the classic terror film "Tales From The Crypt". This compendium film features four stories, with Joan's segment been one of the more memorable, as she is stalked by a maniacal Santa Claus! The film also starred Peter Cushing, Roy Dotrice, Richard Greene, Ian Hendry, Patrick Magee, Barbara Murray and Sir Ralph Richardson.  This film will be released this month as a stand alone release on Reg 2 UK DVD.

VIDEO FLASHBACK : THE JOAN COLLINS VIDEO SELECTION ...ALFIE

This 1986 video cover is part of The Joan Collins Video Selection, a range of video Joan endorsed at that time, (see post archives for details of this collection). The film featured is the 1965 British classic and Oscar nominated "Alfie", starring Michael Caine, Shelley Winters, Millicent Martin, Julia Foster, Jane Asher, Shirley Ann Field and Vivien Merchant. Joan also featured in the 1975 sequel "Alfie Darling". Joan introduced all the films in this collection and I will feature other covers in future posts..
