Celebrating Mum on Mothering Sunday is a given, but what's the best advice your mum has ever given you? Dame Joan Collins shares her Mother's own words..
By Gemma Aldridge..
Joan Collins has mum Elsa to thank for her healthy eating knowledge: “My mother was a gentle and soft, but when it came to her children’s eating habits she was a real toughie.
"To Elsa Collins, proper nourishment for her family was of paramount importance. She would always stress the absolute necessity for us to eat three portions of vegetables a day.
"And since fruit was so rare in those austerity years, a spoonful of cod-liver oil (which was horrid) was followed by something sticky called Virol.
"Sweets before dinner were out of the question, and we had to finish all our greens. But I believe her strict rules are the reason I've always been in good health (touch wood).
"So thank you, Mummie, for such great advice – and wouldn’t you have loved to see that modern science has thankfully improved on the taste of cod-liver oil.."
