When Jane arrives at Stonygates, the home Carrie Louise shares with her husband Lewis, various relatives and a motley crew of young criminals, the latest object of Carrie's philanthropic endeavours..
On the eve that a theatrical performance is staged for their guests, one of whom is Miss Marple, an even more fascinating performance is taking place before their very eyes. One where the final act is murder!
One of Agatha Christie's most popular characters to appear on screen is the timeless Miss Marple who has been delighting cinema audiences since the 60's, firstly with the still popular series of films starring Margaret Rutherford in 1961. The character became popular again in 1984 with the first of a long running series on BBC starring Joan Hickson.. In the BBC version of 'They Do It With Mirrors', Faith Brook played the character of Ruth, with film legend Jean Simmons as Carrie Louise.. Other actresses to play the character were Helen Hayes for American tv movies, Angela Lansbury for the star studded film version of 'The Mirror Crack'd' and even Gracie Fields in a 1956 tv version of 'A Murder Is Announced'.. For the ITV revival which began in 2004 starred Geraldine McEwan who appeared in 12 episodes left the eries after breaking her hip. Julia McKenzie took over the role in 2008 and proved to be a very popular choice...
'' I am always completely amazed when I get the cast lists. They don't tell me in advance. I think they like to surprise me! It's quite staggering who wants to be in the series. I think it's a testament to how good the series is. A lot of people wanted to come back from the other episodes to have a look at Joan Collins! People asked, ''what was she like?'' and I can tell them she was delightful. She's very glamorous but she didn't mind going into what we call a 'threeaway', that's three little caravans in one instead of a whole Winnebego! We had a scene together at The Ritz with dancers, which was delightful. We also had a very nice director, Andy Wilson who has done a lot of these Agatha Christies, so it was good to be in experienced hands..
There has been various dvd releases of 'They Do It With Mirrors' but these are now deleted, you can get the episode in the box sets of Season 4.. However there is Polish release which you can order from Amazon at the following link...
