Joan with Gig Young |
This short lived series ran for 13 episodes and starred Oscar winning actor Gig Young as an alcoholic news reporter, who was once a big shot reporter for the foreign press. But now due to his drink problem has resorted to working for his local small town paper, "Gibbsville Gazette". Ironically Young was also an alcoholic in his own personal life and his Hollywood career hit the skids, "Gibbsville" his last major role, apart from small roles in the TV movie "Spectre" and the martial arts film "Game of Death". On this film he met his final wife, who he shot along with himself a few weeks after the wedding. Ruled as suicide, they were both found dead in his Manhattan apartment. The series "Gibbsville" focused on Jim Malloy, who was a reporter on the "Gibbsville Gazette" and was set in a small Pennsylvania mining town called of course "Gibbsville!" in the 40's.. I don't have much background details on the series, apart from the rare photos included in this post..
Joan on set with Gig Young & crew! |
The series is so rare I can't recall a rescreening at anytime and of the 13 episodes filmed, only 7 were ever broadcast including Joan's episode.. I have seen a cuople of episodes and the series was similar to 'The Waltons' set in a busier town setting, than was seen in the more quiet surroundings of Walton's mountain.. Hopefully the series might sometime be released on dvd, as I am sure it can be enjoyed today..
