Get the Red Carpet Look this Winter with Alex Silver and Joan Collins
When it comes to winter, it’s sometimes hard to surpass all the negative connotations. It’s wet, it’s cold and simply most of us aren't going to be the graceful picture of elegance we wish to be on an ice rink; let alone on a wet, icy pavement, whilst holding onto our inside out umbrellas for dear life.
However, there are some great positives to this season we wish to highlight, and no we’re not talking about the hot chocolate, marshmallow and duvet kind. We have chosen to do this by imitating our favourite beauty icons from the October 2015 red carpets’ and demonstrating how to get their look. As in all honesty, we could all do with a bit of help this time of year, as we morph into pale ice clones of our former selves.
For all its faults, the shorter darker days mean that the smoky eye is the iconic look you can really play with! The extra bonus is that because it’s cold, you’re less likely to face sweat. Yes we said it...face sweat… Surely the Alex Silver team can’t be the only ones with this issue during the hot summer days? Anyway, your eye make-up won’t slide down your face! Hurrah!
Although admittedly, Model and Actress Emily Benson won the lottery in the genes department; it has to be said her eye look was fierce at the MTV EMAs on the 25th October and is really what pulled her whole smouldering appearance together! Lucky for you we have the perfect products to emulate this.
Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Eye shadow Quad comes in both a Misty Grey and Silver and Moody Brows and Gold. Although for this smoky eye, we would say the Misty Grey and Silver which mimics Emily’s eyes perfectly. The colour gradient ranging from the dark grey that can be used in the outer areas of the eye moving into the inner corners, where the lighter grey or silver can be used to create the illusion of a bigger more beautiful eyes and retails at £25. To finish this look off we would add the Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Class Act Mascara in Black retailing at £20. The mascara has a smooth creamy, no clump, no shed formula so you can flutter your lashes as much as you like, at your crush this party season… because let’s face it, we know you will.
We all know the struggles of dry, flaky skin in the winter and often sit in our bedrooms with products smothered and dripping down our faces in hope one will give us a beautiful glow, even in the cold. From experience there are lots of products out there that just don’t do the job and you end up looking like a ghost for a few hours to no prevail.
Gigi Hadid, the ‘it’ girl, face of Topshop and who has also just been announced to be walking the catwalk at Victoria Secret this year, skin looks dewy and radiant at the Global Lyme Alliances Uniting for Lyme free world Inaugural Gala on the 8th of October.
There is no greater beauty secret than to have great skin, as to put it frankly, it is the base for everything else. To get this look we believe that good skin starts with a good moisturiser and yes, it is one of the products you have to spend a little bit extra on. Trust us, it’s worth it! You can thank us later.
Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Sleep Active Night Cream works while your body rests, working to energize your cellular activity and revive the skin and retails at £40. I mean, there’s a reason to why Joan looks the way she does at 82!
Joan Collins also does a gorgeous First Base Foundation at £25. The formula includes the Re-AgeTM Complex that charges the skin with youthful energy, to help increase collagen levels. It also includes Hyaluronic Acid & UV filters and is paraben free. We think this is one of the best products out there because if you are going to have something on your face all day, why not put something on that will do some good, whilst looking great!
When it comes to lipstick and nail polish, we think it can be quite daunting to pull out your bright colours in summer. However, when winter fashion sets in and more neutral tones are introduced, those daunting colours find the perfect balance to your overall look. Plus we know you’re already thinking about the gorgeous contrast your lips and nails will have against the white snow or wrapped around your inevitable pumpkin latte warm mug selfie.
Olivia Wild nailed this look at her New Film Premier Meadowland at the Sunshine Cinema in New York on the 11th of October. Joan Collins has a beautiful range of lipsticks called Divine Lips with parallel colours in her Nail Lacquer range which is perfect when you’re feeling extremely coordinated. There is always something very satisfying about having coordinated lips and nails that make you feel like you can conquer anything. Really, what I’m trying to say is when on the tube in the morning and my nails and lips match I feel like the platforms are my catwalk.
Swiftly moving on! Our new favourite colour here at Alex Silver is the new shade called Amanda. It’s great because it’s a rich creamy hazel shade that matches most skin tones! The Nail Lacquer retailing at £13 offers up the qualities most people want in a relationship; it’s long-lasting, chip-resistant, self-leveling and leaves a stunning shine. As for the lipstick, as well as the beautiful colour with lasting power, it actively hydrates, so lips are softer and fuller. Making them the perfect partners in crime.
