Olivier.. great comments! yes! Joan looked super glam but the script was awful.. I did notice she wore her own things..it was high camp.. it reminded me of those awful usa daytime shows.. but she got paid for it and they will have gotten good ratings..I didn't get why she wanted to steal the trophy! anyway it was interesting!
Oh yeah, the damn trophy...i didn't understand that part either...she steals it, put it in her bag and then leaves the room with a big smile on her face saying something like "may the best woman wins"...It's a bit childish don't you think?
There are talks that she might be asked back. I love the way she arrives with lots of luggage and walks off with a wheelie case and the trophy.. what did she do give the maid her off cast wardrobe. those furs would need a few cases! anyway it was good to see her on screen anyway! looking forward to FETISH now and maybe a new west end show! and another movie!!
Well the point of the storyline, with my spotty German, goes like this...
Young German prince was Joan's toyboy once upon a time in St Tropez, he ditches her and goes to Germany...she comes to Germany, fools him into thinking that she's happy to jump back into their affair and then when he leasts expects it she pulls a con on him and leaves town with the valuable trophy, screwing him out of his prize money, which he desperately needed since his lifestyle's been catching up with him.
Ultimately, I thought Joan's acting in this was far better than in Footballer's Wives, she looked great and seemed to have fun!
Well, well...the show is a bit boring (but daytime soaps always are) and Joan acted a bit mechanical in my humble opinion. The part was not a big stretch for her either: basically, they asked her to do Alexis ("das Denver-Biest"). They even made her smoke those thin black cigarillos like Alexis did some 25 years ago!! Did you notice Joan wore her own clothes? I'm not a big fan of the golden lamé number but love the Zuhair Murad ball gown.
ReplyDeleteMy big problem with the storyline is that the young prince CANNOT STAND Lady Joan. He's not happy to see her in the first scene, is obviously embarassed that people might think they are a couple and, worst of all, refuses to be kissed by Joan!!! Excuse me?!? Is the young man out of his aristocratic mind? I mean, it looks like he's repelled by her and cannot stand to be in the same room. I thought it was very rude to Joan and incongruous at the same time because she's perveived as a maneater...Well, anyway, it's just a bad german daytime soap and I guess the writers didn't know how to fit a living legend in it ;-)
