This is Joan's caricature created by the legendary Al Hirschfeld who died in 2003. To be sketched by him was an honour and it proved you had truly made it! Al started sketching Broadway and Movie stars from the 20s up to his death. Over the years his work has graced the covers of 35 "TV Guide" covers and he was asked to sketch all of the stars of CBS Televisions 1963 fall shows. His sketch of Lucille Ball for "The Lucy Show" was chosen in 1984 by the museum of broadcasting for its "First Lady Of Comedy" poster. In 1975 Hirschfeld received a Tony Award for 50 years of theatrical cartoons. Joan was thrilled to be included in his gallery of work and in 1996 she appeared in the film documentary "The Line King", which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1997 as Best Documentary.
