Did Blake Carrinton survive the shooting and finally make it up those stairs? Did Alexis & Dex fall to their deaths or are they still in mid flight? Is Krystle still in that coma or has she awoken, will anyone notice? What happened to the rest of the Carrington / Colby clan? Add an amorous fashion designer and a power hungry industrialist into the mix, it will be a reunion, like the 80's, no one will forget!!

When 'Dynasty' finished it's ninth season, it concluded with various cliffhangers which were to be resolved in season ten. However it was decided to cancel the series, as the ratings had dropped to low figures and viewers had lost interest. Joan had only appeared in 13 episodes of the last season as the new producer David Paulsen was trying to cut corners. Linda Evans had left after season eight and with idiotic storylines, the series lost it's way and was cancelled.. This meant that after nine seasons, viewers and fans of the show were left wondering what had actually happened to their favourite characters..
When 'Dynasty' came to the end of the ninth season, as was the norm for the night time drama, a series of cliffhangers kept viewers literally hanging on till the new season began. However with the intentions of returning for a tenth season, the writers left Alexis and Dex hanging in mid air after been pushed by Adam during a fight over Sable Colby. Blake lying on the mansion staircase dying of a gunshot wound and other events not touched upon in the mini series. However the network decided to cancel the series and viewers were left to wonder what had happened to the characters.
However rather than continue on from where season 9 left off, the mini series jumps two years ahead and seems to lose the plot in more ways than one. We discover Alexis and Blake survived and now Krystle had awoken from her coma and under the influence of an evil doctor was been brainwashed into killing Blake. This one of the idiotic plotlines that filled this three hour production. Other unfortunate issues were with casting, Gordon Thompson was unavailable so he was replaced by unsuitable Robin Sachs. They brought Kathleen Beller as Kirby, who frankly we could have done without and they introduced a yawn inducing storyline regarding The Consortium ran by evil Jeremy Van Dorn. They brought back Heather Locklear as Sammy Jo and reverted her character back to the trailer trash she was when she first appeared in the oiginal series, even though her character had developed into a responsible business woman in later seasons. There was no sign of Stephanie Beacham who made a great impression as Sable Colby in the last season and who could have livened things up a bit. They did include Maxwell Caulfield as Miles Colby, who was only included to cause trouble between Jeff and Fallon.
Rare behind the scene shots with Joan & Linda |
All in all the mini series was a great disapointment and fans were not impressed as when it aired the first part of the two parter got good viewing figures. However the second part did not fare too well as viewers had seen quite enough and couldn't be bothered tuning in. The cast had agreed to reprise their roles for a lesser fee as they had hoped to please the fans and give them proper closure, which they deserved.. Joan was a highlight of the show and as always looked splendid in a variety of Nolan Miller outfits.
Joan commented at the time..
' Thanks to Nolan, we are still groomed to within an inch of our lives'
Joan centre stage on set |
Nolan created over forty two outfits for Joan and Linda to wear throughout the series. It was thought that maybe if the mini series had been a success, there may have been other movie specials but it was not meant to be. Of course the series was revived or rebooted as they say these days and although it is a hit with younger viewers, it can never match the style and glamour and star power of the original.
'Dynasty The Reunion' was released on dvd in a 2 disc set in 2019 from Via Vision and you can order at the following...
