EVENT FLASHBACK : MURDER IN MIND YVONNE ARNAUD THEATRE 1982

This rare photo features Joan in her dressing room at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Guilford, with co-star Richard Todd. They were celebrating a performance of the play "Murder In Mind" in which they were both appearing. This was the play Joan had to pull out of as she was offered the role of Alexis on "Dynasty". Joan also broke her wrist during a performance and you can see her wrist bandaged in the photo.  Also shown is an ad for the play. More on this play in future posts...

FILM FLASHBACK : SUNBURN 1979 ....

 

This still features Joan as Nera Ortega holding center court with many of the cast of the 1979 comedy thriller "Sunburn". Also seen in the still are John Hillerman, Farrah Fawcett, Alejandro Rey, Robin Clarke and Charles Grodin. The film also starred Eleanor Parker, Art Carney, Keenan Wynn and Seymour Cassel.

FILM FLASHBACK : THE STUD ... 1978

This unseasonal still features Joan as Fontaine Khaled  in the hit 70's British film "The Stud", based on the best-seller by Jackie Collins. This film also starred Oliver Tobias, Sue Lloyd, Mark Burns, Doug Fisher, Emma Jacobs and Walter Gotell.

MAGAZINE FLASHBACK : MARIE CLAIRE JANUARY 1994

In January 1994 Joan was invited to be the guest editor of the best selling woman's monthly magazine "Marie Claire". The magazine featured Joan interviewing her friend Valentino at The Ritz as well as lunch with French and Saunders and Joanna Lumley. Other features included an interview with Clive James & Ruby Wax, The Duchess of York's Diary plus a fabulous B/W fashion spread featuring Joan. Shown here is the promo ad announcing the issue..the magazine cover signed by Joan and a photo of Joan with the Marie Claire team.

FILM FLASHBACK : ZERO TO SIXTY.... 1978

ON THE COVER : SUNDAY EXPRESS ... MAY 1993

As today is the start of the Ascot festival. an event which Joan frequently attends, here is a cover from 1993, with Joan decked out in a suitable attire for the prestigious race event. Ladies day is the day when all the glamorous celebrities attend and hopefully Joan will make an appearance. Watch this space for updates!
This magazine is published with the Sunday Express newspaper and Joan as appeared on it, many times.

FILM FLASHBACK : THE BIG SLEEP 1978

This British film also starred Robert Mitchum, Sarah Miles, Oliver Reed, James Stewart,Candy Clark, Richard Boone, Richard Todd, John Mills, Colin Blakely and Harry Andrews. This photo features a very glamorous Joan as the treacherous Brigitte in the Italian crime thriller  "Poliziotto Senza Paura".. released in Europe as "Fearless Fuzz" and has a variety of titles including.. "Fearless".."Magnum Cop" and "Fatal Charm". The film also stars Maurizio Merli..

Joan has been asked to attend Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear at the Convention Center in Toronto from August 27th to 29th. Joan in attendance for her genre features "Tales From The Crypt" and "Empire of the Ants". Other guests due to appear are legendary cat-woman Julie Newmar, director David Cronenberg and many more to be announced..

FILM FLASHBACK : EMPIRE OF THE ANTS... 1977

This rare photo features Joan as Marilyn Fryser in the cult favourite American International Picture.. "Empire Of The Ants".. The film also stars Robert Lansing, John David Carson, Albert Salmi, Jacqueline Scott,  Pamela Susan Shoop, Irene Tedrow and Robert Pine.

VIDEO FLASHBACK.. THE JOAN COLLINS VIDEO SPECIAL ... 1980

This sleeve is for the 1980 video release on the Video At Home label of Joan's first health and exercise video "The Joan Collins Video Special". This feature has been re-released many times over the years. It was issued again in 1983 on the Astra label due to Joan's Dynasty success. It reappeared again as "Dynastic Joan Reveals All" on the Video Gems label, and in the 90's as "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Joan Collins, But Were Afraid To Ask!" from V.R.L Video. In America is was released by Prism video as "The Making Of Joan Collins". This special was filmed to tie in with "The Joan Collins Beauty Book" and featured Michael Parkinson interviewing Joan on her health and beauty tips, she goes though her make up routine from scratch! She does a series of exercises and we see her film the popular Cinzano commercials with Leonard Rossiter, have lunch with friends Bruce Oldfield and Vivienne Ventura and dinner with husband Ron Kass and Michael and Mary Parkinson. This packed one hour special is a must see and hopefully it might turn up on DVD eventually!

FILM FLASHBACK : THE BAWDY ADVENTURES OF TOM JONES... 1976

This signed photo features Joan as Black Bess in the comedy musical "The Bawdy Adventures Of Tom Jones".This romp also starred Nicky Henson, Trevor Howard, Terry Thomas, Arthur Lowe, Georgia Brown and Madeline Smith.

CAMPAIGN TIME : JOAN COLLINS JEANS ..

Recently Joan hit the headlines as she objected to The Ritz hotel in London's decision to allow designer jeans be worn in the hotel. But Joan was not condemning jeans as a whole, she was only lamenting the fact that a hotel with a reputation like "The Ritz", should uphold their standards. After Joan had a big success with "The Stud", fashion business head, Philip Green contacted her to ask if she would be interested in launching her own line of designer jeans. Philip Green at that time was known as the "Bond Street Bandit" and Joan thought it might be fun to be involved in the venture. Designer jeans were not as common as they are now and hopes were high for their success. Joan did a tour of the UK to promote the line, but even with all the fanfare, the line soon disappeared from the racks. Here are a tag and a print ad plus a signed photo promoting the line..

FILM FLASHBACK : CRY OF THE WOLF ( THE GREAT ADVENTURE ) 1975

This still features Joan as Sonia Kendall in the family adventure "The Cry Of The Wolf" aka.. "The Great Adventure". This Italian/Spanish production was originally called "Il Richiamo Del Lupo". The film also stars Jack Palance and Fred Romer.

AD FLASHBACK .... MY SECRET! 1994

This rare print ad features Joan with a moisturizer she endorsed in 1994 and was a line distributed by The Franklin Mint. This mail order beauty product retailed for $29.95. The photo used was by legendary photographer Gary Bernstein. More on these products in a future post!

FILM FLASHBACK : I DON'T WANT TO BE BORN! 1975

This lobby card is from the popular 1975 shocker "I Don't Want To Be Born!"...known in America as "The Devil Within Her". The lobby features Joan as Lucy Carlesi with John Steiner as Tommy Morris and an unknown dolly bird!  The excellant cast also starred Ralph Bates, Donald Pleasence, Caroline Munro, Hilary Mason and Dame Eileen Atkins.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!!

Today in 1933, another legendary Joan was born, my favourite comedienne and a lovely lady, Miss Joan Rivers. A true comedy legend, Joan has been making us laugh for over 50 years, this Emmy award winning star had turned her hand to films, television, stage and a bestselling author. Joan never fails to put a smile on my face and I wish her many more years of bringing laughter to the world.. Both Joan's are very good friends and here are a few shots of the two legends together!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!!!

EVENT.......... CFDA AWARDS ALICE TULLY HALL .. LINCOLN CENTER : JUNE 7TH : NEW YORK.

 The 2010 Council Of Fashion Designers Of America Awards were held at The Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center New York a few hours ago, where  Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar won the award for Accessory Designer of the Year. Joan of course fronted a truly glamorous 80's themed campaign earlier this year for Alexis. Joan was due to attend but was not feeling well, so Alexis escorted style doyenne and "Old World Weavers" founder Iris Apfel down the red carpet. Alexis was presented his award by actress Dakota Fanning.
