Actress Joan Collins speaks at Port Huron Town Hall
“I used to watch her on “Dynasty” so I had to see her in person,” Ichenberg, of Smiths Creek, said. “She was such a villain.”
Collins covered much more territory than her nine years on the soap opera during Monday’s Port Huron Town Hall.
The longtime soap actress, who portrayed character Alexis Carrington on “Dynasty,” spoke of her acting heritage, her start in Hollywood, her years as a soap star and everything in between.
Throughout her career, Collins said she bore moments of adversity with a smile, but she never forgot the lessons she learned in Hollywood.
“Never trust anyone, particularly lawyers, agents and business managers and certain husbands,” she said.
Collins said she never encouraged her children to pursue an acting career.
“I think it’s a terribly overcrowded profession and a terribly difficult profession,” she said.
Her role as Alexis Carrington was one of the high points of her career, particularly because of the strength of the character, Collins said.
“I felt that Alexis did a lot to empower women,” she said.
Collins hoped her speaking schedule at places like Port Huron Town Hall would serve a similar purpose.
“I hope they’ll be entertained and, perhaps, empowered,” she said.
The actress was encouraged to take up a speaking circuit by fellow actor Gregory Peck. She begins a new speaking tour in England in April.
