Joan Collins: Dad taught me to never trust fame

Joan Collins on fame, becoming a dame
Hollywood legend Joan Collins was honored at the Friars Club in New York on Tuesday for her appointment as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for charitable service. Stars
including Jerry Lewis and Collins’ "Dynasty" co-star John James came out to celebrate the film and TV icon.
James praised the British beauty for her toughness in the cutthroat entertainment industry.
“To be in this business you have to be tough. She never gives up. She never stops. She’s always going, like Joan Rivers," Collins said. "She managed to take the role of Alexis and build that into a major career.”
Actress Arlene Dahl also credited Collins' tenacity.
“She’s got guts. She believes in herself, and she has talent, and beauty," said Dahl. "So that’s what it takes.”
Legendary comic Jerry Lewis joked Collins,, did so well “because she looks so nice," but Collins said it was her late father, Joseph, who instilled her winning attitude.
“I had a very smart father who told me it was a very tough profession and I had to be able to take rejection and not to get too carried away if I did become famous," she said. "Which I never have."
